Robert P. Pinkas, Managing General Partner
Robert P. Pinkas is the founding partner of Brantley. Previously, he led a venture development and investment firm and was the founding director/investor in many high growth businesses in both technology and service industries. Mr. Pinkas has also worked at McKinsey & Co. as a turnaround consultant and strategist for industrial firms and as an attorney at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, a Wall Street law firm with an emphasis on corporate finance. Mr. Pinkas has served on the Board of Directors on numerous private and public companies including Gliatech (NASDAQ: GLIA), Brantley Capital Corporation (NASDAQ: BBDC), Caredata.com (NASDAQ: CDCM), Quad Systems Corporation (NASDAQ: QSYS), Pediatric Services of America (NASDAQ: PSAI), and Waterlink, Inc. (NYSE: WLK). Mr. Pinkas has an A.B. and M.A. from Harvard University and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the New York Bar Association.
Michael J. Finn, General Partner
Michael J. Finn joined Brantley in 1995 bringing with him 18 years of private equity and small-cap public equity investment experience. Mr. Finn began his investment career in 1976 when he launched Forward Development Corporation, one of the first SBA sponsored Small Business Development Corporations in Michigan. In 1983 he led the creation of the Venture Capital Group at the State of Michigan Department of Treasury. Since 1987, as Vice President of Sears Investment Management Co., Mr. Finn developed and led a very successful direct investment portfolio that focused on a variety of growth capital and consolidation situations in software, proprietary databases, and health care companies. He was also directly responsible for a small-cap public investment portfolio concentrating on post venture public companies. Mr. Finn is a member of the Board of Directors of various public and private companies including Pediatric Services of America (NASDAQ: PSAI), Caredata.com (NASDAQ: CDCM), and Brantley Capital Corporation (NASDAQ: BBDC). He has a B.S. and M.S. from Michigan State University.
Paul H. Cascio, General Partner
Paul H. Cascio has served as a general partner at Brantley since 1996. Previously, he was a managing director and head of the industrial manufacturing and services group in the corporate finance department at Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. Prior to joining Dean Witter in 1986, he was employed in the corporate finance department at E.F. Hutton & Company. Mr. Cascio has a wide range of investment banking experience having completed public debt and equity, private debt and equity, mergers and acquisitions and fairness opinion assignments for a variety of industrial, consumer product and health care related companies. He is a member of various Boards of Directors including Brantley Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:BBDC). Mr. Cascio has a B.A. from Colgate University and a M.B.A. from the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration.
James R. Bergman, General Partner
James R. Bergman was a founder and general partner of DSV Partners III and IV and their predecessors. Over the last 30 years, DSV provided capital and management assistance to emerging companies whose focus was primarily in technologies associated with electronics, communications, biotechnology and health care. Mr. Bergman has been involved in the early funding of a number of technology companies, led investments in data communications, semiconductors, computer peripherals, and advanced technology areas, and most recently, focused on investments involving consolidation strategies in various technology-based industries. He has served on the Board of Directors of more than 30 companies, and is currently on the Board of Directors of Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM). He was also a director of the National Venture Capital Association from 1985 to 1990. Mr. Bergman has a B.S. and a M.B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Kevin J. Cook, Principal
Kevin J. Cook joined Brantley in 1996 and has taken responsibility for many aspects of evaluating, supporting and managing Brantley’s investments. Prior to joining Brantley, Mr. Cook was an associate at Brown, Gibbons, Lang & Company, a Cleveland-based investment banking firm serving middle market companies with revenue between $10 million and $50 million. While at Brown, Gibbons, he assisted clients with private placements of debt and equity and merger and acquisition advisory services. Mr. Cook holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and a M.B.A. from Cleveland State University.
Jeffrey D. Kadlic, Associate
Jeffrey D. Kadlic joined Brantley in 2000 as an Associate. His responsibilities at Brantley include evaluating and underwriting Brantley investments as well as supporting the General Partners in managing existing relationships. Previously, Mr. Kadlic was a Senior Associate at Prudential Capital Group (“PCG”), the private investment arm of The Prudential Life Insurance Company of America. Working out of PCG’s Chicago office, he was responsible for marketing, origination, and underwriting of senior, mezzanine and equity securities issued by privately and publicly owned companies, and managed a portfolio of relationships with a value in excess of $1 billion. Prior to joining PCG, Mr. Kadlic was a Loan Officer at LaSalle National Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of ABN-AMRO Bank, in its structured finance division. He received a B.A. from Miami University (Ohio) and an M.M. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
Tab A. Keplinger, Chief Financial Officer
Tab A. Keplinger joined Brantley in 1996 as Chief Financial Officer after serving as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Victoria Financial Corporation. Victoria was a start-up private passenger automobile insurance company that grew to nearly $65 million, successfully completed initial and secondary public offerings, and was later sold to USF&G.; Mr. Keplinger began his career with KPMG Peat Marwick and served as a senior audit manager-manufacturing and service sectors before joining Victoria. He has a B.B.A. from Kent State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Daniel DiMarco, Analyst
Daniel DiMarco joined Brantley in 2000 as an Analyst to provide support in a variety of areas including research, due diligence and financial analysis and reporting. Prior to joining Brantley, he was an underwriter in Key Bank’s structured finance division. His responsibilities included all aspects of underwriting leveraged lending opportunities while working closely with private equity sponsors. His primary experience involved mergers and acquisitions, management buyouts and recapitalizations of middle market companies with revenues of $25.0 to $250.0 million. Mr. DiMarco earned a B.S. degree in Finance from Miami University and an M.B.A. in Systems Management from Baldwin Wallace College.
